Today at the team’s headquarters in Cologne, Toyota pulled the wraps off of this year’s challenger, the TF106 TF107. Maybe its just me but this year’s car looks almost exactly like last year’s. That may be because Toyota is the only team that will be running the same engine, tyres, and drivers that they did in the previous year. Panasonic is also back as the title sponsor for the team as they keep relatively the same livery.
toyota-f1.com has quoted Team Principal Tsutomu Tomita as saying,
Our fundamental target this year is to get the first victory. We announced that a year ago, but we failed to succeed in 2006. And therefore we want to repeat that challenge in 2007. I know all the other teams are working very hard, particularly the top three. We have five years experience in F1, but still we are young in comparison with the top teams, therefore we have to be modest about it. But we would like to challenge them.
Toyota have long been seen as having the largest budget in F1 which makes Tomita-san’s comment above a candidate for our “Understatement of the Year” award.
